            Private practice specializing in the treatment of patients diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.  In addition to focusing on issues of diabetes self-management, therapy also involves processing feelings of anger, guilt, depression, and anxiety regarding adjustment to this chronic illness, utilizing cognitive-behavioral orientation.   Individual, family, and/or group therapy sessions provided.

            Provide psychological assessments for patients referred from the Pain Management Center of Long Island, utilizing objective personality inventory measures, as well as clinical interview, to determine appropriateness of patients for spinal stimulator implant surgery.

            Responsibilities included performing initial intake evaluations for adult outpatient population, as well as child and adolescent outpatient population, in the development of treatment plans and goals, and providing individual and group therapy sessions for anxiety management, depression, and behavioral medicine patients, with a specialty providing therapy to the diabetic population. Also, represented the Counseling Center at South Nassau Communities Hospital’s  yearly “Diabetes Fair”.

            Annual involvement with National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day.

            Comprehensive treatment program included: initial consultation session (review medical and psycho-social developmental history of the patient; demonstration of the learning and training procedures); professional enuresis monitoring system (FDA-registered device); taught “Self-Control Attention and Retention” training program; telephone supervision and supportive therapy provided weekly or bi-weekly. Trained and supervised licensed psychologists and social workers as clinical staff.
